The Reality of Hiking Kilimanjaro: Training for the Climb

It is time for you to go on an adventure of lifetime. You are ready to climb Mt Kilimanjaro for the first time, which means that you need to understand what the reality of training for the hike up Kilimanjaro really is. You will be incredibly glad to hear that it is a rather simple process!

The reality of hiking up Kilimanjaro is that it requires little more than walking. When you train for your hike up Kilimanjaro, you need to remember that slow and steady (in this case) definitely wins the race. There is absolutely no reason for you to push yourself in an effort to increase the speed at which you normally hike. All that you need to do is lea how to endure long periods of walking over rough terrain and, in most cases, long periods of hiking uphill.

The first thing that you need to do before you can begin your training for Kilimanjaro is to get the right equipment. You will need to train with all of your hiking gear so that you can get a feel for what it will be like during the actual climb. This will include your all-important trekking pole manufacturers. You will need to spend quite a bit of money on these boots in order to get ones that are completely suitable. Once you have the boots, ruck sack and walking/mountaineering sticks, you can begin to train.

Some people will begin their training for Kilimanjaro in the gym. Doing strength training is a good way in which to get your body fit and healthy before the climb. You can also practice walking long distances on an incline on the treadmill. Training in the gym is only the beginning, though. You will have to move your training to the great outdoors and do a mixture of the two if you really want to ensure your success. Set aside weekends to travelling to a hilly or mountain area. Start out by doing short walks in these areas so as to get your body used to it. Once you have done this for a while, you will need to increase the hours that you walk.
